Rural Community Trust  first round grants for 2009

Following the first meeting of trustees for the Rural Communities Trust, grants totalling $15,584, have been awarded to ten applicants.  This includes $9,000 to  five Transpower Tertiary Education grantees.

A total of 23 applications were received for the January 2009 round, ten of which were for the Transpower Tertiary Grant.

Successful grants from the January 2009 round were awarded to:

Autism NZ (Waikato) for travel costs around Te Kuiti;

Hawea Kindergarten to assist with landscaping and a carpark;

Wharepohunga Playcentre for a gazebo to provide shelter;

Collingwood Playcentre to assist with an extension; and

A private individual.

 

The five successful Transpower Tertiary Education grantees from the January 2009 round, are each studying for a:

Certificate in Electricity Supply;

BCom (Agriculture);

BA (Development Studies)/BCom (Human Resources);

BEng (Mechanical); and for a

Bachelor of Food Technology.

 

Applications for the next round of grants close on 31 May 2009.  Information and application forms are available on the Trust’s web site (www.ruralcommunitiestrust.org.nz).

The Rural Communities Trust was founded in 1982 and recognises that living in a rural community can mean facing barriers to education, health and other services.   The Trust awards grants to successful applicants every four months.

The trust is proudly supported and administered by Federated Farmers of New Zealand.
